New Audi S8 plus revealed
• Upgraded version of S8 super saloon set to cost £97,700
• 597bhp and 553lb/ft of torque; 189mph top speed
• Orders open in October; first deliveries in January
An uprated version of the Audi S8 super saloon – the S8 plus – has been revealed ahead of being open for orders in October. The revised car will feature more power, a revised bodykit and alloy wheels, as well as more torque than any previous road-going Audi.
Under the bonnet, Audi has managed to squeeze an extra 84bhp from the standard car’s twin-turbo 4.0-litre V8, which now makes 597bhp. The big news, however, is the increase in torque, which has been boosted from 516lb/ft up to 553lb/ft – the highest figure ever produced by a road-going Audi – which helps it sprint from 0-62mph in just 3.8 seconds.
It’ll go on to a limited top speed of 155mph, which can be raised to 189mph if you tick the right option boxes. Power is sent to all four wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox.
To contain the extra power and torque, the S8 plus also comes with carbon-ceramic brakes, as well as uprated adaptive air-suspension and dynamic steering system.
Styling changes include UK-specific 21-inch alloy wheels, S8- and V8T logos, while the grille, window trims and air inlets are finished in black. The rear diffuser, front apron and flaps in the air intake are all finished in carbon fibre, while the rear lights are darkened and the rear lip spoiler is body-coloured.
Interior changes include 22-way adjustable sports seats, which are upholstered in black leather with contrasting stitching, piano black trim pieces, while the roof lining and parcel shelf are finished in black Alcantara. Extra equipment over the standard S8 includes rear privacy class, power door closure and adaptive cruise control with Audi pre-sense front.
Orders for the S8 plus open in October with first deliveries beginning in January. It’s likely to make its public debut at September’s Frankfurt Motor Show.
